June 20, 2025

On June 19, 2025, the initiation ceremony of the Springer-TUP Physics Series took place at the booth of Tsinghua University Press during the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF). Attendees included ZHAO Xin, President of Tsinghua University Press, Dr. Niels Peter Thomas, Executive Vice President as well as Managing Director for Books of Springer Nature, and Pr. ZHOU Yichun from Xidian University, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the book series.

ZHAO Xin reviewed the collaboration between Tsinghua University Press and Springer Nature spanning over two decades, which has yielded more than 150 academic monographs across various fields, from engineering and technology to humanities and social sciences. This established a solid foundation for the Springer-TUP Physics Series initiative. He noted that the idea for this physics series originated from shared analysis of scholarship trends, adding that future cooperation would leverage both organizations' publishing expertise and resources to develop influential academic works that support global physics research and knowledge sharing.

Dr. Thomas emphasized the collaboration's significance in advancing worldwide physics scholarship, stating it would "bring fresh perspectives to the field." He highlighted that five book contracts had been signed within just six months--demonstrating strong alignment between teams and Tsinghua University Press's extensive academic resources. The Springer-TUP Physics Series marks a new phase that will showcase Chinese research globally while fostering international cooperation and innovation.

Editor-in-Chief Pr. ZHOU Yichun described the project as a model of cross-border synergy. The series centers on physics while incorporating materials science and optics, tracking both traditional disciplines and emerging, interdisciplinary frontiers. He emphasized the principles of "broad learning and dedicated practice," noting the growing importance of practical academic application.

Rooted in sustained academic cooperation in physics, the Springer-TUP Physics Series comprehensively covers cutting-edge research and presents disciplinary advancements. As a vital channel for international exchange, it will elevate Chinese physics achievements globally and contribute to scientific progress.
