The 38th Guadalajara International Book Fair was inaugurated on November 30th at the Expo Guadalajara in Mexico. A delegation led by QIU Xianqing, Chairman of Tsinghua University Press (TUP), participated in the event, presenting high-quality publications, and visited Libreria Porrua, the largest bookstore in Mexico, to gain deeper insights into the local book market.

The book donation ceremony titled "Hearts Connected by Publications and Sentiments Conveyed through Books” was held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Guadalajara. QIU Xianqing, on behalf of TUP, donated a collection of books that reflect Tsinghua wisdom and Chinese characteristics. The titles donated were Chinese Traditional Colors: Principles and Practice of Color Matching and Practical Applications, China Fashion: Ladies of Tang Dynasty, 16 Lectures on Positive Psychology at Tsinghua University, A Brief History of Mathematics, and A History of the Cell: The Miracle of the Creating. These works not only demonstrate recent advancements in popular science but also emphasize the unique allure of traditional Chinese culture. The event aimed to cultivate friendships through books and ignite Mexican readers' interest in Chinese science and culture, thereby fostering mutual learning between China and Mexico in the fields of scientific education and cultural exchange.

At the book donation ceremony, QIU Xianqing noted that despite the geographical distance between Mexico and China, the friendship between the two nations is akin to a vibrant rainbow spanning the Pacific Ocean, uniting hearts across continents. He stressed that books have the power to transcend geographical boundaries, fostering understanding and respect for diverse cultures, encouraging dialogue and the exchange of ideas, and inspiring positive social transformation. Qiu expressed his hope for enhanced publishing collaboration with the Spanish-speaking world, aiming to bring more Chinese literature to Latin America and introduce remarkable Latin American works to Chinese readers, thereby strengthening understanding and friendship between the people of both regions.

As the world’s largest gala in the Spanish and Portuguese publishing industry, the Guadalajara International Book Fair is one of the most significant cultural events in Latin America and serves as an ideal platform for publishers from various countries to show their achievements and seek collaboration opportunities. This year, Spain is the guest of honor. Over a thousand publishing organizations participated in the event.
