On December 23, 2023, the 2023 Chinese Society of Editors’ Science and Technology Publishing & Construction of the Strong Country Seminar was held in Qufu, Shandong. It was sponsored by the Chinese Society of Editors, Tsinghua University Press and Shandong Science and Technology Press. Focusing on “the Cultivation of Science and Technology Editing Talents in the New Era”, the conferees exchanged ideas and discussed the training methods and growth paths of science and technology editing talents, in order to contribute to the development of the Chinese publishing industry.
HAO Zhensheng, president of the Chinese Society of Editors, a responsible official at the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, MA Guocang, chairman of the board of China Press and Publishing Media Group Limited, DU Xian, director of the Science and Technology Reading Editing Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Editors and chief editor of People's Medical Publishing House, SHEN Weilong, member of the board of Shandong Press, ZHANG Like, secretary general of the Science and Technology Reading Editing Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Editors, and deputy general manager of China Industry and Information Technology Publishing & Media Group, LU Xianhe, executive deputy general editor and deputy president of the Tsinghua University Press, and SUN Yu, deputy general editor of Tsinghua University Press, as well as more than 100 representatives from publishers around China attended the seminar.
This seminar has received 405 papers from science and technology publishers across China, 198 of which were selected for seminar discussion, and 33 were recommended as good articles. Tsinghua University Press actively participated in the submission and ranked top among the participating publishers with 52 out of 98 papers selected for seminar discussion and 9 out of 98 papers recommended as good articles.
During the seminar, LU Xianhe made a theme report titled “Publish excellent textbooks to serve talent cultivation”, which shared insights from four aspects including the significance, path, hot issues and cases of publishing high-quality textbooks.
SUN Yu, as the representative of the good article authors, delivered a speech titled “Specialize publishing to build a nation strong in science and technology—taking Tsinghua University Press as an example”, which comprehensively elaborated on the significance of publishing “specialization”.
